ACF Skills Lab Pilot is a program designed to educate, support and empower ACF artists and organisations as they navigate the complex worlds of business governance, financial management and marketing.

Money management is sometimes overwhelming but the right tools and systems can make a huge difference. In Session 2 we’ll go through the best ways to navigate the reality of an irregular income, and how to manage the unpredictable nature of work in the arts. We’ll discuss best practice for getting paid, including superannuation, and the basics of tax. We’ll also outline the insurances you might need, and share some tips for expert financial support and where to go for more in-depth help.

All participants get access to a permanent digital folder full of additional resources and activities, and the opportunity to receive personalised mentoring support from a creative business expert.

The Skills Lab Pilot webinars will create a safe space for inclusion and diversity. All creatives will be welcome regardless of experience, education, culture, gender, sexuality or ability.

Monica Davidson - Monica is an award-winning expert on the creative industries, who began her professional life as a freelance journalist, performer, and filmmaker. Monica has a Masters degree in Screen Arts and Business from AFTRS, and was appointed as Australia’s first Creative Industries Business Advisor in 2013. In 2016 Monica founded the social enterprise Creative Plus Business, an organisation dedicated to educating creatives about business skills, financial literacy, wellbeing, and marketing.

We help through sharing practical knowledge in a fun and irreverent way, and everything we do is designed to help creatives to feel more confident and comfortable about the entrepreneurial aspects of their creative practice. We believe that a bit of naughtiness, tempered with a kind heart and a big dose of professionalism, is the key to helping creative people understand the boring basics of business.
