AFA Fireside Chat: Social Determinants of Health in Latino Communities: The Impact on Caregivers

By Alzheimer's Foundation of America

Dementia-related illnesses affect individuals of all backgrounds; however, some ethnic groups are disproportionately impacted, including the Latino community. This disparity for the Latino community exists both in the United States as well in Latin American and Caribbean countries. This episode will describe:

  • Social determinants impacting family caregivers in Latino communities in the US and other countries;
  • How these social determinants can impact family caregivers in Latino communities and their ability to care for themselves;
  • Cultural views in the Latino community that influence the ability to care for a loved one with dementia;
  • Barriers family caregivers in Latino communities face to accessing services and ways to break down those barriers.
