Artists and the Army: A Relationship Built over Centuries

By National Army Museum

Artists have served in the Army throughout its history. Through their work, we can gain insights into the experience of soldiering, and enhance our understanding of military history.
Emma Mawdsley, Head of Collections Development and Review at the National Army Museum, will be joined by Artists Rifles expert Patrick Baty and Lieutenant Colonel Wendy Faux, lead for Arts Engagement in the British Army. Together, they will look at some of the celebrated artists who have served in the Army and the role of contemporary artists in the Army today.
This event is hosted in collaboration with Army @The Fringe, a British Army Edinburgh Fringe project. Army@The Fringe first opened its doors in August 2017 with an ambition to spark conversations about what the Army is and what it stands for in 21st-century society. Their full programme of events can be found here.
