Thousands of West Indian soldiers fought and died for Britain in global conflicts and countless colonial campaigns.
The regiments they served with were part of the British Army. Some of these initially recruited slaves as well as volunteers.
Despite displaying loyalty, courage and endurance, they were denied recognition in their lifetimes and often treated with abuse and bigotry.
Discover the stories and experiences of these overlooked soldiers with Barry Renfrew who will be speaking about his new book, Britain’s Black Regiments: Fighting for Empire and Equality.
