Celebrating Luster: A Conversation about Inspiration, Creativity, and Making Art with three artists — Raven Leilani, Nexus Cook, and Na Kim

Join debut novelist Raven Leilani as she talks with art director, Na Kim, and nail polish creator, Nexus Cook—collaborators on the launch and promotion of Leilani’s novel Luster. Expect a wide-ranging conversation on art, the wonders of color, what it means to be a female artist today, and many other topics. The conversation will be moderated by Leilani’s editor, Jenna Johnson.
Raven Leilani’s work has been published in Granta, The Yale Review, McSweeney’s Quarterly Concern, Conjunctions, The Cut, and New England Review, among other publications. Leilani received her MFA from NYU and was an Axinn Foundation Writer-in-Residence. Luster is her first novel.
Jenna Johnson is an Executive Editor at Farrar, Straus and Giroux, where she publishes a range of fiction and nonfiction. Some of her favorite artists lately include Sou Fujimoto, Florine Stettheimer, Mickalene Thomas, Vivian Maier, Nexus Cook, Na Kim, and Raven Leilani.
Na Kim is an illustrator and art director at Farrar, Straus and Giroux. A graduate of Maryland Institute College of Art, she currently resides in Brooklyn, NY.
Nexus Cook is a music lover, travel enthusiast, and the owner and creative director of 25th & June Nail Elixir–the toxin-free, vegan-friendly nail polish for unapologetic go-getters. Nexus is a New Jersey native, and also works full time as a writer and content strategist in the tech space, where she focuses on business education, global business marketing, and empowering emerging entrepreneurs.
