How to focus your flash fiction and not waste a word

Anything small needs to make a big impact. Flash fiction’s intensity of flavour is there to savour even if it lasts only a few moments. This burst of a story should live in your senses to be revisited often. Discover why every word of your micro story should count - including the all important title – and how to make it fly high.

Tania is a former Bridport Prize flash fiction Judge. She is the author of three collections of flash fiction and short stories and has won various prizes. Her work has been broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and BBC Radio 4, and also performed. Tania teaches regularly for the Arvon Foundation. She is editor of FUEL: An Anthology of Prize-Winning Flash Fictions Raising Funds to Fight Fuel Poverty. Tania has a PhD in creative writing inspired by particle physics.

Barbara is a Bridport Prize Flash Fiction winner. Her work has been published in numerous journals and online including Fractured Lit, Smokelong Quarterly and Flashback Fiction. She is a former litigation lawyer and Stanford Law graduate who practiced in New York and Paris, eventually ditching her high-powered lifestyle in favour of what she felt was a healthier, more balanced life. She now earns her living as a writer.

Jelle is a Bridport Flash Fiction winner. Born in Belgium, he graduated with an MA in English Literature from Sorbonne Nouvelle in Paris. His work has appeared in The London Magazine, Best Small Fictions 2023 and various other journals and anthologies. He currently lives in France.
