Katie Hale’s White Ghosts is a collection of revealing, unflinching poems tracing maternal lines and difficult legacies of slavery and whiteness interwoven into the fabric of America.

Zaffar Kunial is a master of taking things apart, language, words, parts of words, a sound, a colour, the name of a flower and then putting them back together so that we see them in an entirely new light .In England’s Green, we are invited to look at the place and the language we think we know, and then made to think again.

Katie Hale is a Cumbria-based poet and novelist. In 2019 she published her first novel, My Name Is Monster (‘A terrific piece of writing; tough and tender and insightful. Loved it’ Joanne Harris). White Ghosts is her first poetry collection.

Zaffar Kunial lives in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire, and was born in Birmingham. His first collection, Us, was shortlisted for a number of prizes including the TS Eliot Prize. He was a 2022 recipient of the Yale University Windham-Campbell Prize. England’s Green is his second book.
