You may not think this is a form of grief you would often encounter. The truth is just the opposite. Too many ministers and chaplains respond with a good understanding and ministry toward those who are grieving. Yet, too often, we miss complicating factors that may our ministry far less effective. Why? Those grieving with reproductive loss has multiple layers of complication.

The Marsh Institute for Chaplains will host this webinar on May 14, 2026, designed to equip chaplains, pastors, counselors, and lay caregivers for reproductive loss care. Participants will gain a clearer understanding of reproductive loss (including miscarriage, stillbirth, infertility, incarceration-related separation, perinatal death, adoption placement, and abortion-related loss), why “one-size-fits-all” care often fails, and how to respond without minimizing trauma or weaponizing shame.

Reproductive loss is one of the most common—and under-prepared—pastoral care moments chaplains, ministers, and counselors face.
