Developing the Next Generation of Leaders
By Halftime Institute
Do you have a desire to develop the next generation of young, talented leaders?
In this webinar, we are going to focus on one element that is a priority for most halftimers -- mentoring.
What does it look like to connect a passion for mentoring with an effective platform for impact?
After engaging with the Halftime Institute, Barbara Mulkey landed on the passion of pouring into upcoming values-based leaders.
She then connected this passion to a platform at her own alma mater, North Carolina State University.
In this 30-minute webinar, we will dive into Halftime Alumna, Barbara Mulkey’s journey of building a regional engineering firm to leading the renowned Shelton Leadership Center.
Together, we will explore creative ways to make an impact by investing in young leaders.
For those who can stay on, there will be an interactive Q&A for an additional 20-30 minutes.

Barbara Mulkey joined NC State as Director of the Shelton Leadership Center on April 25, 2016, where she served for five years before retiring in 2021.
Prior to joining NC State, Barbara’s career was in the field of civil and structural engineering. Today Barbara is heralded as one of the most respected transportation experts in the state, as evidenced by her induction into the North Carolina Transportation Hall of Fame.
Barbara’s commitment to leadership within her profession led to serving in multiple roles with the premier organization that represents engineering companies, The American Council of Engineering Companies. Her roles have included serving as President of the Board of Directors for the state organization as well as National Director. In addition, Barbara was named a Fellow by the American Society of Civil Engineers (FASCE).
In 2012 she was named to the Leadership Raleigh Hall of Fame for her years of community support. Barbara served for eight years on the NC State Board of Trustees, including two years as Chair of the Board and five years on the Executive Committee. She is also a former board member of the William R. Kenan, Jr. Institute for Engineering, Technology & Science; the NC State University Endowment Board; and the NC State Investment Fund Board.
Barbara currently serves as Vice Chair and incoming Chair of the Research Triangle Foundation Board of Directors.
