Jakarta Tech Talk - Building and hosting an MCP server with Jakarta EE

By Eclipse Foundation

We are seeing that advancement of AI, and with Model Context Protocol from Anthropic being adopted as a tool provider for LLMs, we investigate the possible solutions to create a MCP server that is hosted on a Jakarta EE compliant application server, that support MCP features, written in Java by Java developers, using the enterprise Java best practices.

In this talk/presentation, I showcase how we've managed to create an MCP server, register MCP features (such as tools, resources, etc) and have it hosted online. The solutions are run under Jakarta REST as well as Jakarta Web Servlet (to cater to developer's choice). At this moment the MCP server supports SSE & streamable HTTP transport.
