You are a doctor with 36 months of General Practice/Family Medicine experience?
And you want to join the 2 year conversion programme to specialisation in Family Medicine here in Ireland?
Lets talk about eligibility
This programme is for experienced Family Medicine doctors to come to work in General Practice clinics in rural Ireland.
You will deliver patient appointments and undertake self directed learning with support from your practice and the Irish College of General Practitioners.
You will sit the CCT and CKT exams with the expectation that you will meet the requirements to join the Irish Medical Council Specialist register in the division of General Practice after a 2 year period.
So what is counted towards the 36 months of GP/Family Medicine experience?
✅ you have been delivering unsupervised patient appointments in a primary care setting for 36 months - this has been your full time job
✅ you have been diagnosing, managing, preventing and following up acute and chronic illness in patients
✅ You work with all patient populations (newborns through geriatrics) in a non hospital setting (primary care clinic)
✅ Experience gained as a doctor on a cruise ship will be counted towards the 36 months
What does NOT count towards GP/Family Medicine Experience?
⛔ Emergency Medicine Experience
⛔ Experience gained in Walk in GP clinics
⛔ Experience in Out of Hours service
⛔ Experience in Minor Injuries Units
⛔ GP Locum Work as a secondary job
What else do you need?
✅ Be eligible for General Registraton with Irish Medical Council
✅ Demonstrate strong communication skills (spoken and written)
✅ Possess the ability to adapt to new clinical environments
