The Disproportionate Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Women - with Dr. Kara Hunt and LaTeri McFadden, PH.D.,

This two-hour interactive presentation (45 minute presentation followed by Q&A and open forum) will detail the disparate impact of COVID-19 on women, with an emphasis on the longstanding economic, social, and gender based disparities that have intensified systemic and structural barriers to equality.
Topics that will be covered include:
The history of inequality and gender stereotyping underscoring women's access to credit, employment and housing
The exacerbation of incidences of domestic violence against women and girls
The the disproportionate impact of the pandemic on Women of Color as well as low-wage workers
The vulnerability of women with children to housing insecurity and harassment during the pandemic
This workshop will be conducted by Dr. Kara Hunt and Dr. LaTeri McFadden.
A Maryland native, Kara Hunt is the Director of Education & Outreach for the Maryland Commission on Civil Rights, a mediator, and a research enthusiast. Her graduate research was centered on the intersection of diversity, critical theory, and communication and she now applies that research to her current work in civil rights enforcement, education, and outreach.
LaTeri McFadden, PH.D., is a Baltimore native. She attended Bowie State University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Child and Adolescent Studies, an interdisciplinary program. Towson University, earning a Master of Science degree in Human Resources Development and Post-Bachelor?s Certification in Management & Leadership Development. Finally, she attended Capella University, where she earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Organization and Management with a specialization in Human Resource Management. Her research focused on the generational perspective of work-life balance and wellness in the nonprofit sector.
Professionally Dr. McFadden has been a Program Manager for a Nonprofit, Senior Benefits Specialist, Leave Management Subject Matter Expert, and an Adjunct Professor.
Dr. McFadden is currently involved in various community initiatives, including serving as a board member for several nonprofit organizations, Pressley Ridge of Maryland, African American Fire Fighters Historical Society, and The Be Org. In addition, Dr. McFadden is a Life Member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Incorporated. Lastly, She serves as an officer for The Greater Baltimore Urban League Young Professional Auxiliary, Greater Baltimore Leadership Associations, as Vice-President of Finance. In addition, she recently completed the National Urban League Congressional Advocacy Program.
