BJCP Grandmaster I, Advanced Cicerone, and Certified Mead Judge. Assistant Communications Director for the BJCP, American Mead Makers Association Home Governing Committee, and Education Chair/President Emeritus for The Long Island Beer and Malt Enthusiasts social club.
Writing score sheets and accurately evaluating beer has been the most significant aspect of being a beer judge since the inception of the BJCP in 1985. It is the most widely practiced and recognizable feature of our organization. As such, there is a wealth of free and cheap resources and opportunities available for members to better hone their abilities in search of an 80+ score on the tasting exam. I plan to go through those resources as well as outline the methods we use for training judges through The Long Island Beer and Malt Enthusiasts. Q&A to follow.
