Presentation and discussion will be followed by live Q&A with the audience.

Daniela Tejada-Martinez holds a PhD in Ecology and Evolution and is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, USA. Daniela's expertise includes evolutionary and comparative genomics, phylogenetics and bioinformatics, and her research interests aim to discover the genetic basis in the evolution of phenotypic diversity. Recently, she notably focused on the molecular variants related to longevity and cancer resistance in vertebrates with a special interest in gene regulation, positive selection and copy number variation. The main species she works with include all sorts of organisms, whether they crawl, swim or fly, but as long as they are big, long-lived and resistant to human diseases; nonetheless, whales in particular are her favorites.

Our marine biologists and research technicians use various expertise to conduct field studies, analyze data, and communicate findings. Bay Cetology was founded by Jared Towers in 2017 and is based out of Alert Bay (Home of the Killer Whale) in the unceded traditional territory of the 'Namgis First Nation in British Columbia, Canada.
