The Princeton Festival: Creative Transitions
By Princeton Public Library
Now entering its 17th season, The Princeton Festival (princetonfestival.org) is a multi-genre performing arts festival held each June in the Princeton area.
Esteemed festival lecturer Dr. Timothy Urban will introduce The Princeton Festival's Acting Artistic Director Gregory J. Geehern. Greg will discuss his artistic background, his history with the festival, and his exciting plans for the 2021 season.
About the speakers:
Gregory Geehern, D.Mus., is a multi-talented conductor, pianist, baritone, and scholar who has been called a "gifted new presence" for his work with full choirs, opera choruses, and chamber ensembles in repertoire from the Middle Ages to the present day. Greg is the newly appointed Acting Artistic Director of The Princeton Festival. In his previous role as the Festival's Associate Conductor and Assistant to the Artistic Director, he served as assistant conductor and chorus master of Beethoven's Fidelio, Benjamin Britten's Peter Grimes, and John Adams' Nixon in China. Greg also conducted acclaimed performances of masterworks such as J.S. Bach's cantata Der Herr denket an uns and George Frideric Handel's Dixit Dominus with The Princeton Festival's Baroque Chorus and Orchestra.
Timothy Urban holds a M.M. degree in voice and recorder performance; a M.F.A. degree in early music performance practice; a M.A. degree in music theory and history; and a Ph.D. in musicology, specializing in music of the Italian seicento. He has appeared in solo and chamber music recitals, lectured, and guest conducted across the United States and internationally but most importantly, year after year, Princeton Festival patrons find Dr. Urban’s lectures on our opera’s music and plot essential to their enjoyment of the performance.
