Case Study Investigation (CSI): IHT and trusts
By Paraplanners' Assembly
Welcome to CSI: Paraplanners
This is our new way of solving paraplanner problems called Case Study Investigations or, wait for it, CSI: Paraplanners for short.
Before we meet up with you, a team of investigators consisting of paraplanners and an expert have dissected and discussed 3 case studies on the puzzling topic of IHT and trusts, to show:
- How others approach this problem
- The technical solutions they come up with
- The workings - their thinking, the clues they look for along the way, what they weigh up and what supporting information they seek
On 18 May, you'll become part of the investigation team.
What's in the magnifying glass this time around?
Our crack team came together to investigate 3 cases studies where the clients wanted to plan for IHT and trusts were top of their list. For every case study we will:
- Review the client's background and objectives
- Talk through the most important facts and issues
- Consider the various options
- Recommend a solution and the reasons why we think it's suitable
You can take a look at the case studies yourself, here.
Your CSI team
- Richard Allum - Founder of The Paraplanners (and manages to run a few paraplanner events, or something like that).
- Alyson Brooker - Paraplanner at The Paraplanners. A graduate in Law from the University of Edinburgh, Alyson had originally planned to embark on a career practicing law but, despite achieving a Diploma in Legal Practice, she soon caught the paraplanning bug. Today, Alyson is a Chartered Financial Planner. Alyson’s background in law has particularly helped hone her skills in trusts, estate planning and general tax planning.
- Les Cameron - Head of Technical, M&G Wealth. Les leads M&G Wealth's technical team. He is a fellow of the PFS, spending time reading, writing and speaking about pensions, tax and trusts to our internal stakeholders, press, financial advisers and paraplanners.
- Andy Marshall - Starting his career in financial services 20 years ago at a former building society, Andy's career has taken him via a high street bank to the independent advice sector as an advisor focussing on mortgages, to finally putting his report writing skills and technical knowledge to work as a paraplanner.
