The Typography Dojo is a place where we come together to explore the techniques in the practice of type and typography with training from design Sensei. Join us to learn from the masters.

There are fewer restrictions with hand lettering since it's static, whereas a typeface has many moving parts and can be recombined in any number of ways. How do you create lettering as the basis for a typeface? There are so many considerations: how connections will work, compromises that have to be made to make a typeface work and problems to be aware of ahead of approaching the development of a script typeface. Join us with Laura Worthington as she answers these burning questions and more.

Laura Worthington is a typeface designer from Washington State who turned her lifelong fascination with lettering and typography into a business, publishing her first typeface in 2010. She has since published more than 80 typefaces, and designed custom faces for Fortune 500 companies. Laura’s faces are primarily based on her own hand-lettering and calligraphy, a practice she continues to hone daily.
