Experiencing Mead - Learning & Exploring the Depth of Flavors

Jason Phelps, Founder, and Chief Mead Maker at Ancient Fire Mead & Cider will share with us a number of sensory training and methods including structured tastings for Meads and Ciders. Experiencing flavor and aroma are very personal and Jason will share with us how to connect with what we're experiencing and the vocabulary to describe it.
Jason will start his presentation with a Commercial Calibration Mead: Zombie Killer from B. Nektar. Acquire yours before the webinar and you'll be able to taste it along with Jason.

Jason will take us beyond the typical honey/mead flavor wheel and help us better understand how to train ourselves. To enable us to describe the things that are being triggered by our palate. This will, of course, include both mead and honey, but also the fruits, spices that are the reference points for which our descriptions are based.

About Jason Phelps:
Jason Phelps is a 15+ year veteran homebrewer who took up the hobby after successful cancer treatment in 2003. Like many, he quickly became fascinated with all of the ingredients and techniques that could be combined to make home fermentations to share and enjoy. Through competitions Jason was able to both receive and provide feedback on a wide range of beverages, also while studying for and attaining BJCP Beer & Mead as well as USACM Cider Professional certifications; in addition to having also been honored with 120+ medals for his own creations. Jason is an author for both Brew Your Own and Winemaker Magazines, as well as a presenter at industry events related to brewing and mead/cider making. In March of 2018, Jason and his wife Margot opened Ancient Fire Mead & Cider in Manchester, NH. Ancient Fire produces draft style meads, wine style meads as well as ciders, all of which can be best experienced with a taproom visit.
