Judith Mackrell is a celebrated dance critic, who has written for the Independent and Guardian. Her biography of the Russian ballerina Lydia Lopokova, Bloomsbury Ballerina, was shortlisted for the Costa Biography Award. She is also the co-author of The Oxford Dictionary of Dance. Her recent research has focused on the lives of female journalists during the Second World War.
