Hidden in Berlin: Author Presentation and Discussion

At this virtual presentation Evelyn Grossman will discuss her recently released multi-generational Holocaust memoir using a slideshow that will take you on a trip through history.
“Hidden in Berlin: A Holocaust Memoir” is the fulfillment of a promise Evelyn Joseph Grossman made years ago in Berlin to preserve her family’s story. Lilo and Ernst, her parents, survived the horrors of World War Two in the center of Berlin, but not without help in this tale of survival and kindness.
Through documents, letters, and friends, the author manages to recreate her parents' precarious existence in Berlin and at the same time creates a picture of this time in history. This memoir also juxtaposes the struggle of her parents, two young people, barely out of their teenage years when they emigrated, with her family's own experiences in contemporary America.
About the Author: Evelyn Joseph Grossman was raised in Trenton, New Jersey by parents who couldn't separate themselves from their German past and accents. She grew up in a home celebrating Jewish holidays, a connection she continues today as an active member of The Jewish Center in Princeton. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Douglass College, Rutgers University, and a master’s degree from Fordham University. In her professional life, she worked as a financial analyst in the field of commercial debt obligations. In retirement, she has focused on writing her parents’ story, describing the past with honesty and love, honoring the rescuers as Righteous Among the Nations.
