How We Show Up: A Conversation with Mia Birdsong and Dani McClain
By Hachette Book Group
Hachette Books and Bold Type Books are pleased to host a conversation between Dani McClain, author of We Live for the We: The Political Power of Black Motherhood, and Mia Birdsong, author of How We Show Up: Reclaiming Family, Friendship, and Community. Join Dani and Mia for an important discussion on the challenges of building community and of being single and parenting alone during the Covid-19 crisis and ways we can support each other when the most powerful practice we have (actually physically showing up) is dangerous. This free event is available to anyone who registers, no purchase required.
Dani McClain reports on race and reproductive health. She is a contributing writer at The Nation and a fellow with Type Media Center (formerly the Nation Institute). McClain's writing has appeared in outlets including Slate, Talking Points Memo, Colorlines, EBONY.com, and The Rumpus. She was a staff reporter at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, and has worked as a strategist with organizations including Color of Change and the Drug Policy Alliance. McClain lives with her family in Cincinnati.
Mia Birdsong is an activist, facilitator, and storyteller. A Senior Fellow of the Economic Security Project, she was also an inaugural Ascend Fellow of The Aspen Institute and New American California Fellow. She was founding Co-Director of Family Story and Vice President of the Family Independence Initiative, Mia speaks widely at conferences and gatherings across the country. She lives with her loved ones on the occupied land of the Chochenyo Ohlone people (AKA Oakland, CA).
