The Reggie Watkins Trio with Reggie Watkins - trombone and piano, Ava Lintz - bass, and David Throckmorton - drums, began as the house rhythm section for "Quantum Spirit's Modern Jazz Sessions" which featured a different guest composer / instrumentalist once a month from February 2019 to February 2020. In March 2020 the ongoing and thriving event was abruptly cut short by the pandemic. The series was conceived of and curated by Reggie Watkins in order to perform his original works in addition to the compositions of the monthly featured artist. The trio currently continues to play Saturdays on the patio at Quantum Spirits in Carnegie Pennsylvania. The group plays the original music of Watkins and versions of songs from the jazz idiom including works by Horace Silver, Ornette Coleman and Charles Mingus.

Trombonist, pianist & composer Reggie Watkins has released three recordings as leader. From 1999 to 2006 he served as trombonist & musical director for trumpeter & band leader Maynard Ferguson. In 2003 Watkins was a semi-finalist in the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition. Between 2008 & 2013 he toured & recorded with singer songwriter Jason Mraz & The Grooveline Horns. From 2014 to 2017 he toured regularly with Dumstaphunk & The Steeltown Horns. Now in addition to leading his own trio, quartet & other projects, he is a member of Orrin Evans' Captain Black Big Band, The Pittsburgh Jazz Orchestra, Scott Bradlee's Postmodern Jukebox & a founding member of The Keystone Jazz Collective.

Ava Lintz grew up in Morgantown, WV in family of musicians. She currently lives in Pittsburgh where she works in various venues throughout the city. After studying bass with members of the Pittsburgh Symphony, she began playing assistant principal bass for the Akron Symphony. She has also subbed with regional orchestras including the Erie Philharmonic, Canton Symphony, & Youngstown Symphony.

David Throckmorton has performed all over the world with artists including: Maynard Ferguson, David Fiuczynski, Tony Grey, Hotei & Javon Jackson. David is 1/3 of DTC Organ Trio featuring guitarist Dan Wilson, & organist Cliff Barnes. David leads or co-leads his own ensembles including Beam, Thoth Trio, Smash Your Wagon & The David Throckmorton Quartet.
