Marikana: A People's History
By Jacana Media
It is almost ten years since the South African police shot and killed more than thirty striking mineworkers at Marikana, in August 2012. On Wednesday 23 March 2022, Nomzamo Zondo, Executive Director of SERI and attorney for the families of those killed in the massacre, will be in conversation with Julian Brown, author of Marikana: A People’s History, to launch this new book. They will be discussing how the book centres the lives of the workers in the history of the massacre, commemorates their death, and tells the story of how the families’ lives have changed in the decade since their loved ones were killed. This conversation will be moderated by Koketso Moeti.
