"Oral Storytelling: From Magic Lamps to Evil Stepmothers" with Vaishnavi Patel and Chelsea Abdullah
By Orbit LIVE!
Many stories we still know today originated as spoken ones, passed down by generations without being written down. Join debut authors Vaishnavi Patel and Chelsea Abdullah, whose novels were inspired by oral storytelling traditions, for an event discussing their books! Plus, they'll also be taking your questions throughout the event.
Vaishnavi Patel is the author of Kaikeyi, which reimagines the ancient Indian epic the Ramayana from the perspective of the infamous queen and stepmother Kaikeyi. Publishers Weekly called it "mesmerizing" and said that it "easily earns its place on shelves alongside Madeline Miller's Circe." Kaikeyi is available now from Redhook.
Chelsea Abdullah is the author of The Stardust Thief, an epic fantasy inspired by stories from One Thousand and One Nights, about a legendary smuggler, a cowardly prince, and a dangerous quest across the desert. BuzzFeed said, "Abdullah's talent is making you feel like magic exists." The Stardust Thief will be out from Orbit on May 17th.
