So Percussion Summer Institute

By Princeton Public Library

Princeton Public Library partners with Sō Percussion to highlight performances by participants of SōSI 2020 Online, a new summer course and collaborative online festival. Participants work toward common realizations of new work, reinterpret older work that suits online collaboration and share their own projects.
In place of the 12th annual Sō Percussion Summer Institute (SōSI) on the Princeton University campus, this year's program was redesigned for a virtual landscape. While SōSI is normally limited to percussionists and composers, SōSI Online is available to musicians of any instrument or creative discipline in music.
Program:
  • Clapping Music by Steve Reich, performed by all current SōSI 2020 participants
  • Run on Spin Out by Louis Raymond Kolker, performed and commissioned by SōSI 2020 participant, Anthony McIntosh
  • Nod to Fellow Travelers (a composition for shakuhachi) by Devon Osamu Tipp, current SōSI 2020 participant
  • Rolling Meditation by Pauline Oliveros, performed by Eric Cha-Beach
  • Jot by Gavin Kitchen, current SōSI 2020 participant
  • Round Midnight by Thelonious Monk, featuring Victor Provost and Joshua Quillen
  • La Guitarra by Max Addae, performed by SōSI 2020 participants Brian Ellis and Hunter Gross
  • Stephon Clark by Darian Thomas, premiered at SōSI 2018 by Sō Percussion
