Rob Rogers, Enemy of the People Presented by City of Asylum

By Show Must Go Online

RUN TIME: 45 minutes
After 25 years as the political cartoonist for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, award-winning editorial cartoonist Rob Rogers was fired for drawing cartoons critical of President Trump. In his collection Enemy of the People: A Cartoonist's Journey, Rob chronicles his unenviable journey and investigates the dangers currently posed to freedom of speech with honesty, daring, and wit.
Rob read at City of Asylum in June 2019 to a packed house, sharing new cartoons that made us think and made us laugh. This program revisits highlights from that evening and reminds us that Rob’s commitment to championing the First Amendment are more relevant today than ever before.
The program concludes with a new interview with Rob as we catch up on his quarantine creations and tour his at-home studio. We’re living in a time ripe with inspiration for political cartoonists and Rob’s new material reminds us of the importance of speaking hard truths, and laughing through the pain.
The Show Must Go On(line) is made possible thanks to generous support from the Benter Foundation, The Heinz Endowments, the Juliet Lea Hillman Simonds Foundation, the Opportunity Fund, The Pittsburgh Foundation, UPMC, and an Anonymous Foundation.
