Free online event, all welcome:  Join us in celebrating Daniel Abdal-Hayy's life and work with contemporary Muslim poets from around the globe sharing their work and thoughts on keeping the poetic spirit alive in digital times.

Daniel Abdal-Hayy Moore began his writing career as a Beat poet and "sacred theatre" artist, leading the Floating Lotus Magic Opera Company in Berkeley, CA from 1968 til its dissolution in 1970. The same year he came across the work of Jalaluddin Rumi, and soon after, a representative of Sufism with whom he embraced Islam. 

His poetry is a fascinating fusion of American free verse with Beat, Zen, and Romantic influences, together with devotional poetry from the world of Islam. By expressing his spirituality in his own voice, his ecstatic poetry is relatable and real, and encourages us to do the same.

Michael Haroon Sugich,  author of Signs of the Horizon and Hearts Turn. Michael was initiated into a traditional Sufi order in 1972. Since that time he has studied Sufi doctrine and practice with spiritual masters across the Arab and Islamic world. He was a longtime friend and companion of Abdal-Hayy.

Medina Tenour Whiteman is an author, poet and singer-songwriter whose first book, a collection of poems entitled Love is a Traveller and We Are Its Path, was published in 2016 by Daniel Abdal-Hayy Moore on his Exchange Exchange label. She leads the 'From a Shore Beyond Water' project dedicated to celebrating the work of her mentor.

Abdullah Noman is a part time Sydney based writer and poet. His poetry has been published in Cordite, Zinewest and other anthologies.

Zainab Zahra Syed is a student of poetry and currently works as a Creative Producer at Performing Lines WA.  She’s founder of Pakistan’s national poetry slam and of illumenate; a diverse arts collective in Perth.

Naveen Krishnasamy is a digital journalist and producer based in Turkey. His writing chops were earned on the back of original poetry and short story writing.

Aamon Sayed's dream is to create a space of safety and wellness where everybody who works with him can explore their identity and discover their role in the world.
