In 2016 the UK Government announced a levy on soft drinks, which was implemented in 2018. The levy is tiered, with no charge for drinks containing less than 5g sugar per 100mL, increasing to 24p per litre for drinks containing more than 8g sugar per 100mL. We present the results so far from an ongoing evaluation of the levy, considering its impact on the amount of sugar in drinks, total overall sales, household level purchases, stock market value, and modelled impact on obesity and long-term health outcomes.
