Timothy Schaffert Virtual Author Visit
By Omaha Public Library
Omaha Public Library welcomes Timothy Schaffert, author of six novels, most recently The Perfume Thief (Doubleday/Penguin Random House). The Los Angeles Times called the book’s title character “one of the best protagonists of the summer., and named it among the top 10 best books of the summer.
Schaffert's previous novels have received accolades such as The New York Times Editors’ Choice, an Oprah.com Book of the Week, and a Barnes and Noble Discover Great New Writers selection, among other honors. Schaffert is the director of the creative writing program at University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and the curator of the "50 Years of LGBTQ Studies at UNL" festival and exhibit.
“The Perfume Thief is Schaffert’s best novel yet…at once a lush, sometimes chilling work of WWII-era historical fiction and also a fanciful queer romp about outcasts and thieves, lepidopterists and lesbian perfume…[I]ntoxicating”—emily danforth, author of Plain Bad Heroines
“This is a superb novel, enchanting and brutal in equal measure. This is historical fiction at its finest, vivid and beautifully rendered; and yet in their longing for a lost world, Schaffert’s characters feel entirely contemporary to our present moment.”—Emily St. John Mandel, author of The Glass Hotel
