Deep Diversity: A Compassionate Approach to Achieving Racial Justice

By TPL Programs

Award-winning racial justice educator Shakil Choudhury explores the emotionally loaded topic of racism using a compassionate, scientific approach that everyone can understand—whether you are Black, Indigenous, a person of colour (BIPOC), or white.
Shakil's book Deep Diversity uses clear language and engaging stories to explain how and why well-intentioned people can perpetuate systems of oppression, often unconsciously. He interweaves research to show how psychology and neuroscience perspectives are critical to integrating into anti-racist work and shares hard-won lessons from helping organizations and CEOs create more inclusive environments.
Shakil shares examples of his bias missteps by modelling vulnerability and mistake-making, so readers are encouraged into their racial justice journey without judgment.
Shakil talks with Barb Thomas, co-author of Dancing On Live Embers: Challenging Racism in Organizations, about Deep Diversity and shares tools to recognize, take authentic responsibility, and enact deep change.
