Hate Symbols: An Introduction to Identification Using Hatepedia

By TPL Programs

Online hate takes many forms, and not all of them are immediately obvious. Hateful incidents, displays of hate symbols, and the gathering, reach, and radicalization of hate-promoting groups in Ontario have shown that there is a need for Canadian-specific anti-hate resources. While public awareness of this issue has increased, hate promoters have developed new tactics to avoid being held accountable for their speech.
The Holocaust Education Centre (HEC) is proud to introduce Hatepedia - an online resource hub produced by the HEC's Government of Canada Anti-Racism Action Program-funded Online Hate Research and Education Project. It contains essential resources for educators, parents, law enforcement, elected officials, and researchers seeking to identify and contextualize displays of hate, including Canada's Hate Symbol List.
This presentation by the HEC invites Torontonians to learn more about this ground-breaking project in the Canadian landscape.
This 1-hour Live & Online program will be recorded and available for replay on Crowdcast.
You can also watch the live stream by attending in-person at the Barbara Frum Branch.
