Leigh Cowart: Hurts So Good
By TPLCulture
Masochism is often immediately associated with sexual gratification, however, the pursuit of pain for pleasure is not exclusive to dominatrices and subs. What about people who eat extremely hot peppers for competition? Or ultra-marathon runners who push their bodies to extremes for first place? Tattoo enthusiasts? Ballerinas? These are only a few examples of garden-variety masochists who seek pain in the body to create deeper sensations in the brain.
In Hurts So Good: The Science and Culture of Pain on Purpose, science writer, researcher and self-professed high-sensation seeking masochist, Leigh Cowart unveils how our minds and bodies find meaning and relief in pain.
Author Leigh Cowart shares insight from their new book Hurts So Good with host Treena Orchard and discusses the real science behind pain.
