Sarah Schulman: Let The Record Show
By TPLCulture
Formed in the 1980s, in response to the AIDS epidemic, ACT UP (the AIDS Coalition To Unleash Power) battled the government, the church, the medical and pharmaceutical industry and in the process created a livable future for generations of people.
In Let The Record Show: A Political History of ACT UP New York, 1987-1993, author Sarah Schulman explores and reexamines the legacy of ACT UP. Through over two hundred interviews with ACT UP members, Schulman reveals the complex history of how a broad and unlikely coalition of activists from all races, genders, sexualities, and backgrounds, changed the world.
Sarah Schulman and Rinaldo Walcott discuss Let the Record Show and the rich legacy of lessons ACT UP bequeathed to today’s activists.
