Jody Wilson-Raybould: "Indian" in the Cabinet
By TPLCulture
The honourable Jody Wilson-Raybould was raised to be a leader. Inspired by the example of her grandmother, who persevered throughout her life to keep alive the governing traditions of her people, and raised as the daughter of a hereditary chief and Indigenous leader, Wilson-Raybould always knew she would take on leadership roles and responsibilities.
As Canada's first Indigenous Minister of Justice and Attorney General in the Cabinet of then newly elected prime minister, Justin Trudeau, Wilson-Raybould was in the inner circle of power but soon found herself in the eye of a political storm that would profoundly shift her optimism and force her to choose principles over partisanship.
In her astounding memoir "Indian" in the Cabinet: Speaking Truth to Power, Wilson-Raybould recounts her journey to Ottawa, her challenges with enacting change while in Cabinet and the very important lessons that now inform her approach to power and politics.
Jody Wilson-Raybould speaks with Dr. Tracy Bear about "Indian" in the Cabinet and the need to strengthen our political institutions in order to collectively address racial justice and climate change.
